Stop Tinkering and Submit Already!

Writing is a little different than doing a math equation. There is no definitive solution and it’s rarely ever perfect. It’s doubtful you’ll look at a piece and think ‘yes, every word adds up completely to form the perfect piece’. The hard part is knowing when to stop tinkering and submit already.

Of course, editing is essential. You should expect to spend almost as much time reading through and editing your work as you did writing it. Every sentence, paragraph, title and bullet point should be looked at, revised and in some cases, rewritten completely.

Nobody writes so perfectly that their first draft is ready to go. Checking, editing, revising and rewriting is an essential part of your process if you want your work to be professional and polished.

But, it’s often easy to fall into the trap of tinkering too much. It’s easy to reach the stage where you’re not improving the quality any more, just making it different. When you get to the point that every sentence makes sense and you can’t come up with any differences that you’re confident will improve the piece, it’s time to go ahead and submit.

Almost every project at eZdia has an editor phase, and some also have QA. So, while we strive to encourage writers to submit a perfect piece (it improves your scores and your chance to work on new projects), there’s also a time when you have to stop tinkering and submit.

If the editor notices any mistakes, they will return with feedback or fix and leave feedback. Which is why checking your scores and feedback are vitally important. Both are there to help you hone your craft and improve your content.
